Fixed Bridges: A Solution for Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can affect not only your smile but also your ability to chew and speak clearly. Our team at Springbank Dental Centre offers fixed dental bridges as a long-term solution to fill the gap left by missing teeth.

Unlike removable dentures, a fixed bridge is securely anchored to your natural teeth, providing a stable and natural-looking restoration that restores both the function and aesthetics of your smile.

If you are missing one or more teeth and are looking for a permanent replacement that doesn’t damage surrounding healthy teeth, a fixed bridge might be the right choice for you. The bridge is designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, giving you a beautiful, restored smile.

What Is a Fixed Bridge?

A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable appliance designed to fill the gap left by one or more missing teeth. It is anchored to the adjacent natural teeth (called abutments) with crowns, and a pontic (artificial tooth) is placed between them to replace the missing tooth or teeth.

Fixed bridges are most commonly made from porcelain fused to metal or all-porcelain materials, providing a durable and natural appearance. Our team will discuss the best options for your particular case during your appointment.

How Does a Fixed Bridge Work?

A fixed bridge uses the healthy teeth on either side of the gap as anchors (abutments). These abutment teeth are prepared by removing a small portion of enamel to accommodate crowns that will support the pontic (artifical tooth).

The pontic fills the gap where the missing tooth once was, restoring the function and appearance of your smile. Once the bridge is placed, it is securely cemented to the abutment teeth, creating a permanent, stable solution for your missing teeth.

Who Needs a Fixed Bridge?

Fixed bridges are ideal for people who have lost one or more teeth and want a permanent solution that doesn’t involve removable dentures. A bridge might be the right option for you if:

  • You have one or more missing teeth
  • You want a more permanent solution
  • You have healthy surrounding teeth
  • You want to restore functionality
  • You want to prevent your teeth from shifting

The Fixed Bridge Process

Getting a fixed bridge typically takes 2 or more visits to Springbank Dental Centre, and includes:

  • Initial consultation & preparation: We’ll assess your dental health and take X-rays during the first visit. If a fixed bridge is right for you, we’ll prepare the abutment teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to make space for the crowns.
  • Impressions & temporary bridge: We’ll take an impression of your teeth to create a custom bridge and place a temporary one while your permanent bridge is crafted in a lab.
  • Fitting the permanent bridge: Once ready, we’ll check the fit of your permanent bridge, make any necessary adjustments, and cement it in place.
  • Aftercare: We’ll provide instructions on caring for your bridge. Proper brushing, flossing, and regular checkups will help maintain its longevity.

Schedule Your Consultation Today

A well-maintained fixed bridge can last many years, typically 10–15 years or longer, depending on the materials used and how well you take care of them. With proper care, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups, your bridge will remain strong and functional for years to come.
