A Smarter Approach to Dental Cleanings
Plaque and tartar buildup aren’t just about looks—they can lead to cavities, gum disease, and even issues with dental implants. Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a cleaning method designed to remove harmful biofilm (a sticky layer of bacteria) in a way that’s thorough, comfortable, and minimally invasive.
GBT doesn’t just clean your teeth—it highlights areas of plaque that might otherwise go unnoticed, helping to prevent future dental issues. Whether you have natural teeth, implants, braces, or restorations, this treatment offers precise and effective cleaning without unnecessary scraping.
Keep your smile healthy and strong—book your GBT appointment today.
Request AppointmentHow Often Should You Get a GBT Cleaning?
For most people, a GBT cleaning every 6 months is enough to keep plaque and tartar under control. However, some patients may need more frequent visits based on their oral health needs.
If you have gum disease, braces, dental implants, or a higher risk of plaque buildup, our team may recommend more frequent cleanings to prevent complications like inflammation, decay, or infection.
What to Expect During a GBT Cleaning
Step 1: Identifying Problem Areas
Every GBT cleaning begins with an oral health assessment, including a dental exam and an oral cancer screening. A special biofilm-disclosing dye is then applied to make plaque buildup visible for a targeted and efficient cleaning process. Photos may also be taken to track progress over time.
Step 2: Gentle, Thorough Cleaning with Airflow
AirFlow technology removes plaque and stains with a fine jet of water, air, and powder, reaching up to 4 mm below the gum line. It’s especially effective for those with braces, implants, or restorations, cleaning deep grooves without damaging enamel.
For deeper cleaning up to 9 mm, PerioFlow provides a gentle yet powerful solution for biofilm removal, even in harder-to-reach areas.
Step 3: Removing Calculus & Tartar
For areas with hardened plaque (calculus), PerioFlow is used to gently clean deep gum pockets while protecting the tooth’s surface.
Step 4: Ultrasonic Cleaning for Deep Pockets
If there are deeper pockets (10 mm or more), Piezon technology comes into play. Using ultrasonic vibrations, it removes tartar with precision, reducing the need for manual scraping while keeping the experience as comfortable as possible.
Step 5: Strengthening & Protecting Your Teeth
After biofilm and tartar are removed, fluoride treatment is applied to help strengthen the enamel. A final check ensures any remaining problem areas are addressed and follow-up recommendations are made based on your individual needs.
