Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.
Whiter teeth have now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients today. So it would come as no surprise that there are a number of ways to whiten the teeth. A popular method of teeth whitening is using an at-home whitening system that will dramatically brighten your teeth. Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc.
Teeth Whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
Teeth whitening usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic trays.
During the second appointment, your custom tray will be fitted to your mouth to ensure the best fit possible. There are two whitening methods you can use the trays in order to get brighter, whiter teeth. Both require a special whitening solution. You can either wear the trays for 30 minutes twice a day or overnight. Either method requires you to wear your trays over the course of a couple of weeks – and even longer depending on the degree of staining or desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity for the duration of your teeth whitening process; however, it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy and white smile.
